Reverse Aging Process with this Supplement

reverse aging processReverse Aging Process with TA-65

Hormone replacement therapy can reverse aging process and bring back some youthfulness but it does not actually reverse the aging process.  We continue to age with these treatments though with a higher quality of life.  One supplement that shows promise in actually reversing aging is TA-65.

What is TA-65?

TA-65 is a telomerase activator.  So what does that mean?  At the end of our chromosomes that contain our DNA are extra pieces of DNA called telomeres.  Telomeres are similar to aglets, those plastic caps at the end of shoelaces that protect the shoelaces.

Our somatic cells have the ability to divide about 30 to 50 times over the course of the lifespan. This is called the Hayflick Limit. Each time a cell divides it loses some of the telomere cap.

At some point the telomere becomes too short and when that happens, the cell either dies or becomes non-functional.  Each cell has 92 telomeres at both ends of 46 chromosomes, but it can only take one short telomere to cause cellular death or senescence.

A study published in JAMA in 2010 found that people with short telomeres were 11 times more likely to die from cancer than those people with the longest telomeres.  Another study published in American Journal of Epidemiology in March of 2011 reported that individuals whose telomeres were among the shortest 25% had a 60% greater risk of dying over the 6.1 years of follow-up.

Telomerase is a naturally occurring enzyme that can repair and lengthen telomeres.  The problem is it has to be activated to be functional.  In normal healthy cells telomerase is turned off.  TA-65  transiently activates telomerase jump starting it into action.

How TA-65 May Reverse Aging Process

TA-65 is a small molecule extracted from the Chinese herb astragalus.  Right now TA-65 is the first and only commercially available telomerase activator shown to be safe for human use.  TA-65 has been shown to lengthen the shortest telomeres, improve immune function, increase bone density, improve glucose and insulin levels, lower blood pressure, lower homocysteine levels (a risk factor for heart disease), and improve cognition.

It seems clear that having short telomeres is a health disadvantage.  Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D and regular exercise have all been shown to slow down the rate of telomere shortening, but do not lengthen telomeres like TA-65.

Being able to reverse aging process seems quite possible with TA-65.
