The Hormone Diet: by Natasha Turner, ND

After age 40 it becomes increasingly difficult to obtain or maintain an ideal body weight with just exercise and nutrition. Something else is needed.  And, that something else is optimal hormone levels.  In The Hormone Diet Natasha Turner, a naturopathic doctor, shows how to improve hormone levels through diet and other lifestyle changes. The Hormone Diet is for both men and women.

Dr. Turner discusses the role and importance of getting sufficient amount of restful sleep.  While we are sleeping our bodies are busily manufacturing healthful hormones that rejuvenate us, relax us, and improve our metabolism.  Poor sleep leads to elevations of insulin and cortisol, 2 hormones that can have detrimental effects if levels are too high.

In The Hormone Diet you will learn how to optimize sex hormones by avoiding high glycemic foods, trans and saturated fats, artificial sweeteners while learning eating habits and foods and supplements to consume to maximize hormone production that will improve metabolism, muscle mass, and appetite control.

Finally, you will learn how sex revs our fat-burning hormones while satisfying cravings.  Like we discuss on this website, Dr. Turner discusses the stimulation of growth hormone and testosterone that occurs through strength training and high intensity interval training. So staying active is vital to maintaining youthful hormone levels.

The Hormone Diet includes information on interpreting laboratory results and has a section on foods to stimulate production of specific hormones. The Hormone Diet is an easy to read book that reinforces our views on healthy aging.
