Yes, you need a personal trainer if you want an amazing body. Come on, even Tiger Woods has had golf coaches his entire professional career. We all need personal instruction and bodybuilding is the same.
In the last post on bodybuilding, we discussed the different forms and divisions for both men’s and women’s bodybuilding. It’s important to have a personal trainer or coach knowledgeable in the subtleties of each division of competition to help you shape the body you want and that the judges find desirable. But, a trainer can be very helpful even if you have no plans to be a professional or amateur competitor.
Chris George is a trainer in the Columbus area and says it takes him 14 to 20 weeks to get an athlete ready for a competition. And, he has to consider many things depending on his client’s goals and which division they may competing in. It requires critical pathway thinking.
Here’s where we need to be on the day of the competition. Here’s where we need to be a week before the competition. Here’s where we need to be a month before the competition, and so on. It requires a well-designed plan. And, such planning can help you and me, or others who may have no interest in competing to build our way to an amazing body and better health.
The Right Shape for the Right Division
Bodybuilding is an art and science. For example, when training men in the Bodybuilding division Chris has to help his clients get their muscles as big and as firm as possible and keep them in balance or proportion while designing a nutritional program that will get their body fat down as low as 3% by the time of the show or competition.
When he’s training women for Figure competition he works on getting women to develop broader shoulders with thinner hips and thighs while maintaining muscle definition. Women competing in the Bikini division require a softer look (magazine model), yet a well-toned body. In both men’s and women’s Physique competitions Chris works on getting his clients lean yet well-defined – Â a more athletic look than the Bodybuilding division. And, some of getting the desired look varies from individual to individual and requires some trial and error.
Exercise and Nutrition
And, guess what? Â Exercise is probably the easiest part of Chris’s work with his athletes. The hard part in sculpting an amazing body is the nutrition component. You can exercise all day long, but if you don’t eat right you will never – NEVER – get an award-winning body. Some think that as much as 90% of the result of bodybuilding is nutrition-related – and so is much of health.
Bodybuilding: Trainer’s Perspective
Chris loves being a personal trainer and receives tremendous satisfaction from seeing someone develop an amazing body and improve their health right before his eyes knowing that he had a role in helping sculpt that incredible physique for someone who had the necessary desire and commitment.
Here is some advice from Chris for those interested in sculpting their desired body. “Make sure you’re mentally ready. This is not easy and there will be times when you want to quit. Secondly, hire a coach/nutritionist to help. Do not do this on your own. The health benefits of bodybuilding are that it teaches you how to eat clean and to get and keep an amazing body.”
Eating clean in the end is a prerequisite to good health and that’s one reason why sculpting an amazing body is a way to optimal health.
An amazing body is yours for the asking. How badly do you want it? Be sure to ask for help if that’s your goal.
