Every few months we hear a new report about coffee being harmful or beneficial to one’s health. It gets a little confusing but there are some legitimate studies available and I think you’ll find them interesting. So pour yourself a cup of joe, relax and read on.

The Benefits of Coffee

There is more than adequate research available to prove that there are benefits to your health drinking coffee. It is associated with a decrease in cardiac arrhythmias in males and females and decreases the incidence of stroke in females

Kaiser Permanente enrolled  130,000 people who drank 1-3 cups of coffee a day. They had a 20% decrease in arrhythmias when compared to non-coffee drinkers. A 2009 study of 83,700 nurses (females) who consumed more than one cup a day had a 20% decrease in strokes when compared to non-coffee drinkers.

Coffee has also been linked to decrease in type two diabetes, liver cancer, dementia and Alzheimer’s. A study in Finland and Sweden with 1,400 individuals followed for 20 years , the coffee drinkers (3-5 cups) had a 65% decrease in dementia and Alzheimer’s when compared to non-coffee drinkers.

Keeps the Doctor AWAY: Have a Cup of Joe

We certainly can see that there is benefit to our health drinking that cup of Joe. The problem is we don’t quite understand how. There are antioxidants in that cup of Joe but does it increase our blood levels when consumed as a hor drink ? For the time being a cup of Joe appears not only safe but beneficial when consumed in moderate amounts. The more we learn, the safer that cup or two of Joe becomes. We all know the saying, everything in moderation!
