What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Heart Disease: By Mark Houston, MD

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Heart Disease bookAvoid Heart Disease: Read this Book

If you want to learn everything you can to prevent heart disease this is the book. I just finished reading What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Heart Disease by Mark Houston, MD and it’s an eye opener.

The management of heart disease has been too narrowly focused on keeping cholesterol levels in “healthy ranges” and addressing the 4 other risk factors thought to be most important in reducing heart disease; hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and obesity. Dr. Houston illustrates why addressing only these 5 risk factors is not enough to prevent heart disease. In What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Heart Disease Dr. Houston sheds light on the importance of preventing oxidation, inflammation, and glycation in order to reduce heart disease.  Obviously, more and more people suffer from heart disease each year which should tell us something about focusing only on those 5 “major” risk factors. It tells us that strategy isn’t working. More must be done.

We’ve discussed the importance of preventing oxidation, inflammation, and glycation in some of our other posts (see “3 Anti Aging Solutions“. Dr. Houston informs the reader how nutrition, nutritional supplements, and exercise can dampen oxidation, inflammation, and glycation. He details supplements you should consider to target those specific disorders associated with heart disease.

Dr. Houston goes in-depth discussing the importance of higher intensity exercise (something else we’ve been touting), and that we should exercise in very specific ways to trigger exercise-gene interactions that will squelch oxidation, inflammation, and glycation – exercise to trigger hormone release beneficial to the body. He then walks you through his ABCT Exercise program that involves both resistance and cardiovascular training.

If you love to cook and are looking for new recipes What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Heart Disease provides a sampling of breakfast, lunch, and dinner suggestions.

The steps Dr. Houston recommends will also help you prevent all chronic disease. So What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Heart Disease is more than a book on preventing heart disease.  It’s a book on living healthy and energetically.
