Junk Food: The New Male Contraceptive?

Junk food can negatively impact sperm productionJunk Food: Junky Sperm

Researchers from Harvard and the University of Murcia in Spain report that males between the ages of 18 and 22, and otherwise healthy, who ate a high proportion of junk food had poorer quality of sperm than those who ate healthier diets.  Poor quality of food – poor quality of sperm.  Just what you want everybody to know,  “Hey, I have lousy sperm because I’m a junk food eater.”

So we now have another example of you are what you eat.  Junk food – the new male contraceptive.

The trans fats in junk food is thought to be a key factor in damaging the sperm so that they cannot make the journey to the “promised land”.  This inability to fertilize an egg held true even if men exercised and maintained a healthy weight.  Other studies have shown moderate exercise improves sperm health and motility.

Other Problems with Junk Food

Junk food and drinks tends to be high in empty calories, high in sugar, low in protein, and low in essential fats. This contributes to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and more. Plus, the trans fats become incorporated into the cell walls hampering many of the functions of the cell. Junk foods really have little nutritional value to the body.

So men, if you really want manly sperm that can get the job done then eat a diet of whole grains, vegetables and fish which was associated with better sperm quality.  MAN UP!
